Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ) is a grappling-based martial art where the aim is the control of a resisting opponent by taking
them down to the ground. Once on the ground, the use of superior leverage, gripping and positioning can enable control
and submission of a larger, stronger, more aggressive opponent. Although the learning of this knowledge is physically
and mentally demanding, it produces greatly increased physical fitness, sensitivity, problem-solving abilities and self-awareness
of body and mind.
The social benefits of working with like-minded fellow students are also tremendous, as you learn and have fun together. Any one individual’s body type, personality, strengths, weaknesses, insecurities, experiences, abilities and disabilities will determine the exact techniques that they eventually adopt. So no two student’s Jiu Jitsu are exactly the same, everyone develops their own personal expression of BJJ. Constantly evolving, it’s like no other combat sport, an artistic declaration of a martial practice.
